Outreach

CHRISTMAS SHARING

Annually Christ Church provides both gifts and money to several local area schools to help insure that families in need have the means to observe the holiday.

CORNERSTONE HOUSING

In partnership with New Hope Resource Center, Christ Church helps to provide transitional housing for individuals in recovery who have been homeless.

HOT LUNCH MINISTRY

From September through May, a ministry of providing a hot meal in a welcoming environment is offered in the parish hall. Soups, chili, and stews, as well as deserts and beverages, are provided by members of the congregation on a weekly basis. This ministry partners with the St. Laurence Ministry (see below) to provide a ministry of care and compassion to the homeless and those in need.

KNITTING MINISTRY

The knitting ministry creates shawls, blankets, and baby hats as a outward and visible sign of God’s love. These items are then donated to various organizations such as local foster programs and the Franciscan Hospice.

LUNCHES TO GO

From June through August, the Lunches to Go ministry provides sack lunches to the homeless and others in need. This ministry partners with the St. Laurence Ministry (see below) to provide a ministry of care and compassion.

MISSION TO SEAFARERS

The Seattle Mission to Seafarers provides care and support to the crews of ships which come into the Seattle harbor. Annually, members of Christ Church provide knitted caps and ditty bags for the mission’s holiday sharing program.

PUYALLUP FOOD BANK

Since 1972, the Puyallup Food Bank has existed to provide relief, serve generously and give hope to people in the larger Puyallup area. They receive donations from a wide variety of sources and rely heavily on volunteer help. Members of Christ Church support the work of the Puyallup Food Bank through donations of food, volunteer hours, and monetary contributions.

PUYALLUP HIGH SCHOOL GATEWAY TRANSITION PROGRAM

On Wednesday mornings, during the school year, our church is a job-site for students with disabilities from the Puyallup School District Gateway Transition Program housed at Puyallup High School.

SLEEPING BAG DRIVE

In support of both St. Francis House and New Hope Resource Center, Christ Church conducts a sleeping bag drive for the homeless in the Puyallup area. During winter months a well made cold rated sleeping bag can mean the difference between life and death for a person who finds themselves homeless.

ST. LAURENCE MINISTRY

Every Wednesday, the St. Laurence Ministry helps those in need in a variety of capacities. Persons without a permanent mail address can have their mail sent to the church and pick it up weekly. Laundry packets, which include laundry soap, dryer sheets, and a gift card that can be used at a local laundromat, are made available. An all day bus pass can be picked up. And, basic toiletries, as well as socks, are given out as needed.
