Worship

At Christ Episcopal Church of Puyallup, we offer a traditional church service with a friendly presentation. We have two principle services on Sunday mornings, a midweek Eucharist that includes lunch on Wednesdays, and a selection of special occasion worship experiences throughout the year. Nearly all of our liturgies come from the Book of Common Prayer.

We’re a neighborhood church in downtown Puyallup, Washington, and we do our best to welcome all who cross our paths. Please come and join us!

Sunday Rite II Eucharist at 8am
Many people come early for this first service of the day, as the coffee is always hot by 7:30 or so. After the bell rings at five ‘til and people make their way into the sanctuary, the liturgy begins in silence. An acolyte, one or two lay ministers, and the priest make up the altar party at this spoken service. A congregation of forty to fifty people is average. We’re generally finished by 8:50, and more coffee with treats await in the parish hall.

Sunday Rite II Eucharist with Music at 10am
Our later service attracts a slightly larger crowd and comes with more bells and whistles. During the school year our Choir leads the congregation in singing the hymns and psalms, while making their own musical offertory at the transition between the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table. On the first Sunday of each month Soul Purpose, our contemporary music ensemble leads the worship music. A fuller complement of acolytes and lay ministers gives the service a somewhat more formal feel, though we maintain our friendly rapport throughout. Nursery Care is available during this service. A festive coffee hour follows, including special treats for little ones.

Wednesday Eucharist and Lunch at 12:05pm
This midweek service is a great way to take a deep breath halfway through the traditional workweek. Anywhere from eight to twenty people gather just after noon for this brief service. Instead of a formal sermon we share thoughts, questions, and feelings about the scripture readings appointed for the day. After gathering around the altar and sharing in Communion, we head into the parish hall for a simple lunch. Usually this is soup and bread for the winter, sandwiches and salads for the summer. Lunch is usually finished by 1pm in time for everyone to get back to their busy days refreshed.

Occasional Liturgies
Throughout the year we offer special services for special occasions. These might be regular Eucharists for particular days (Thanksgiving, Ascension Day, etc.) or special worship opportunities (Taizé prayer, Evensong, etc.). Check out our calendar to see when the next special service is coming up.
